Our Year 1 Curriculum
Autumn Term
This half term we are looking at a topic called ‘Dinosaur Planet’. The children will be learning all about dinosaurs and the different theories behind why they became extinct. We will be looking at different types of dinosaurs and teaching the children about the diets of dinosaurs. In Geography, we will be exploring the dinosaur’s prehistoric landscapes and where different bones were dug up in different countries across the world.
In Science, the children will be looking at the features that make up the human body and will label each body part on a diagram. We will be looking at different everyday activities that we complete and discuss what parts of our bodies are to be used to complete them. We will be looking at and exploring our 5 senses (touch, taste, smell, sight and hear) and talking about what parts of our body allows us to use these senses.
In RE, the children will be looking about ‘Celebrations'. As part of this topic, children will learn about different religious celebrations. Children will learn about the story of Guru Nanak and how Sikhs celebrate his birthday. Children will also learn about how Christians are baptised.
